Tarantadong Kalbo: The Spectrum of Self This series of digital illustrations explores the multifaceted nature of the creative spirit through the artist's iconic persona. Utilizing a primary color palette and a consistent character study, these works map a journey of survival and the relentless drive to create.
I. Forever Young Blue
Theme: Playfulness and Mischief
Artist Statement: "Through this piece, I aim to strip away the pretension of the 'serious artist' and return to the core of why I create. The painting depicts an aspect of the artist: playfulness and mischief. By balancing a simple blue crayon—the very tool of my trade—beneath a nose-scrunching expression, I am reclaiming the joy of experimentation. It is a reminder that the most profound insights often arrive in moments of silliness."
II. Forever Young Red
Theme: Courage and Conviction
Artist Statement: "This work captures the moment creative energy transforms into action. The painting depicts an aspect of the artist: courage and conviction. By trading a balanced crayon for a firm grip on a red drawing tool, I am illustrating the bravery required to put mark to paper and the steadfastness needed to defend one’s perspective. It is a visual manifesto on the power of standing by your work."
III. Forever Young Yellow
Theme: Introspection and Contemplation
Artist Statement: "This work explores the quiet pauses that define the creative life. The painting depicts an aspect of the artist: introspection and contemplation. With a pencil held gently and eyes turned toward the unseen, I am illustrating the mental space where ideas are born before they ever touch the canvas. It is a tribute to the power of observation and the necessary silence required to listen to one’s own creative voice."
Series Summary: The Cycle of Creation These paintings were conceptualized while the artist was recovering in the hospital from a serious illness that almost cost his life. In those quiet, sterile moments, a singular thought took hold: I am not yet ready to die. I have so much more to give. This series is the artist putting that energy into the world—a manifestation of a will to exist. These "silly" paintings are a way of saying to the universe in big, bright, and bold colors: Not yet. Not today. The titles are a tribute to the song “Forever Young.” While no one can live forever, these works pose a deeply human question to the universe: “But can I stay a bit longer?” This sequence traces that plea through the playfulness of Forever Young Blue, the conviction of Forever Young Red, and the introspection of Forever Young Yellow. Together, they serve as a vibrant defiance against the end, proving that the creative spirit is, in its own way, eternal.
